950x1350 mm, Homemade tapestry loom, Wool and Cotton
Art residency Coma, Valdivia (CL), 2022
Tramandar is a project born in Valdivia during the Coma Art residency.
The title refers to the Italian verb tramandare, meaning to pass something on through time. The project explores this idea through weaving, creating a tapestry inspired by the landscape, topography and textures of nature. Conceived as a sort of diary, the work encodes the experiences, exchanges and impressions gathered during the residency into a material form.
The loom was constructed using wood and bamboo found in Coma’s garden, while the wool was sourced from the nearby island of Chiloé. Weaving became a physical and intuitive process through which different states of mind could emerge. The tensions of the thread became part of the tapestry’s language, transforming the material into a record of both the residency and the emotional rhythms that accompanied its making.
